Pages on this site carry a single byline: Dana Whitfield, Wild Card Desk. Dana Whitfield is the desk’s editor and is responsible for what is published here, including the factual standard applied to every page and any corrections that follow.
We publish under one desk name rather than a roster of individual contributors. Reporting on this site is desk research — reading league announcements and reference records and turning them into tables people can use — rather than original interviewing, so a single accountable byline is more honest than a list of names.
How a page is made
- Collect. Start from primary announcements: the NFL’s schedule and playoff-format releases, MLB’s playoff format and broadcast announcements. Historical results come from reference encyclopaedia entries.
- Separate. Split the material into what is confirmed and what is not. Anything a league has not announced is written as “To be announced” rather than estimated.
- Cross-check. Compare every date, score and record against at least one source, and resolve numbers that appear in more than one place. Where two sources disagree, the disputed figure is dropped instead of guessed.
- Cite. Each factual page ends with a short “Sources” line naming what was used for that page specifically.
- Review and date. The editor reviews the page before it goes live, and the “last updated” date at the top of every page reflects the most recent review.
What we do not do
We do not publish projections, playoff odds, betting content, rumours, insider reports or invented quotes. We do not run advertising, analytics or any third-party scripts. We have no affiliation with the NFL, MLB, their clubs or their broadcast partners.
